What is IP location?
IP location or geolocation refers to the technology that localizes Internet users down to a geographical area through the analysis of the user's IP address. What can IP location be used for? Knowing the location of end users enables online businesses and organizations to localize content, deliver geo-targeted ads, perform site traffic analysis, manage digital rights, ensure regulatory compliance, filter spam and unwanted traffic, detect fraud, and more.
What is GeoLite?
GeoLite is the most widely integrated open source IP location database in the world. Although it is free, it is comparable to some commercial IP location databases in terms of accuracy.
It can be used as a standalone database or be bundled into software and programs that utilize IP location controls or data. The GeoLite databases are released under the General Public License (GPL) and certain database restrictions. It is free for both personal and business use with open source software as well as non-open source software. However, it may only be redistributed as a part of a bundled open source software product.
